The Corpus Christi Wind Symphony is an adult community band made up of performers from the Coastal Bend Area of Texas. The band was organized in 1986 and is currently enjoying its thirty-second year of performing free concerts at schools and universities in the area. Rehearsals are held Monday evenings from November through May with public performances scheduled each month. Notable performances have been for State, National, and European conferences with the most recent of those being for the July 2012 Texas Bandmasters Convention in San Antonio.
Richard Blaylock is the interim music director and conductor of the CCWS. A graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi, Mr. Blaylock directed bands out of state for the first five years of his career and has spent the last thirty-six years teaching Band in Texas. Mr. Blaylock's bands have received numerous sweepstakes awards and he is a twenty-one year member of The Texas Music Adjudicators Association. He is a past Region Band Chairman and Secretary for TMEA Region 14 and is a long time member of the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony. He is currently the Fine Arts Department Chairman and Band Director for the Roy Miller High School Metropolitan School of Design.
